While your children are developing, it is especially important to do everything you can to give their eyes what they need to be healthy. How to Boost Eye Health
The food you give your child can impact many things about their health, and eyesight is one of them. Food that is rich in nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin C, and zinc can help keep up your child’s eye health far into adulthood. Try to incorporate those green vegetables like kale and spinach, oily fish like salmon, citrus fruits, and vegetarian foods high in protein (nuts, beans, eggs, etc.) into your meal plan.
Try to reduce your child’s eye strain from looking at screens. It may be wise to limit your child’s time looking at a screen every day. You can also avoid eye strain during these activities by turning up the lights, having them sit further back from the screen, or facilitating breaks every 15-20 minutes where your child looks away from the screen for a minute or two.
Protective eyewear can help a lot as well. Purchase high-quality sunglasses for your child and have them wear them whenever you are outside. Sunglasses protect the eyes from damaging sun rays. If your child is participating in an activity where something may fly into their eyes, have them wear something protective over their eyes.
How to Monitor Eye Health
Pay attention your child’s eyesight. If they have difficulty seeing things either up close or far away, this can indicate nearsightedness or farsightedness. If they complain of eye fatigue or headaches, it can also indicate problems. Get your child an eye exam at least once a year to track their health and wellness. A doctor can find any issues and recommend the best course of action.
