June is Men’s Health Awareness month, a month to shine a light on the importance of men taking care of their health. There are common problems that a lot of men face which are not being taken care of and treated properly resulting in men dying prematurely. This has gotten to the point where it has become a national crisis which is what makes this month so important.
One of the main causes of death in men, prostate cancer, is also the most common cancer in men. It has even surpassed skin cancer in that aspect. African-American men are more likely to develop prostate cancer than others. Sexual health is another main concern in men’s health and it is estimated that one in four men will have a concern with their sexual health by the time they are sixty-five. Erectile dysfunction and low testosterone are also concerns and may be signs of an even bigger concern such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.
Low testosterone increases your risk of hypertension and diabetes along with many other chronic conditions. The symptoms include lowered sex drive, fatigue, erectile difficulty, mood swings, and even sometimes memory issues. If you suspect that you have low testosterone, you should mention it to your doctor as soon as possible so that they can help treat it.
You can get involved in this month by sharing the message of this month with those around you as well as on social media so that they can inform themselves. If you are over the age of forty, you should be getting regular prostate checks to make sure that you are remaining in good health. You should also be getting regular checkups to ensure that the rest of your body is in tip-top condition. Your health should be your main concern and should always be the first priority.
