With June comes summer which also brings camping, hiking, and national safety awareness month. This month has been dedicated to sharing how important safety is in every situation and what can happen if you don’t follow the necessary steps to make sure that you are protected.
Injuries are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of one and forty-four and it is the leading cause of disability for people of all ages. This is why this month is around and the goal is to reduce injuries at work, on the road, at home, and anywhere in between.
This month is meant to promote good habits and proper safety procedure that will prevent injuries in your daily life. This involves keeping tripping and fall hazards away from where you walk and making sure that the risk of slipping is as low as possible. It is also meant to promote proper use of bicycles, skateboards, and any motor vehicles.
Workplace safety is an extremely high focus point of this month as well. This is because a lot of fatal injuries happen in the workplace. Another big part of this month is first aid and emergency preparedness which will not prevent injury but will do a good job of decreasing long-term effects from any injuries.
You can get involved in this month by sharing the cause with the people around you as well as on social media to allow more people to educate themselves. You can also make changes in your everyday life in order to be safer. This involves wearing proper safety equipment and tidying up so that you have very low fall chances. Because injuries are so preventable, there is no reason that you shouldn’t do everything you can to make sure you and those around you stay safe.
